New Zealand Adopts 2012 Collins Word List

New Zealand Scrabble Players have voted to adopt the 2012 version of the Collins Scrabble Tournament and Club Word List (CSW12) from 1 January 2012. This is in line with our membership of WESPA which has voted to adopt it from the same date.

A handy initiation kit is available on the WESPA website. There is also an amusing story to help you learn the new four-letter words.

Nigel wins World Scrabble Champs

Nigel Richards has become the only player to have won the World Scrabble Championship twice (he last won in 2007). He beat Andrew Fisher (Australia) in a best-of-five final after finishing in top position after 36 rounds. Go here for coverage.

The NZ team performed creditably and earned NZ an extra place at the next WSC.

New NZ National Champion

Lynne Butler of New Plymouth is the new national Scrabble Champion. Lynne won the Australian national champs 25 years ago and is one of a few NZ Scrabblers to have held more than one national title. A full tournament report is here.

There were no constitutional amendments.

A remit proposing that the number of the games at the Nationals be increased was defeated. Clubs were requested to give this suggestion more thought for discussion at a future management meeting.
